I visited WA back in June of 2015. Although much more laid back than the other big cities I had visited in Australia, Perth was definitely worth the effort to get to. Right in the city center Kings Park Botanical Gardens offered tranquility amid a busy city. Fremantle was a quaint and rather artsy little town with loads of great craft beers and street art - a feast for both your taste buds and your eyes.

But the showstopper here was hands down Rottnest Island. After a ferry crossing I collected my rental bicycle and set off exploring the island. The reefs and clear waters were nice, but I had come to see the quokkas. These cute and furry little marsupials were equally friendly, inquisitive and photogenic.
